Current needs:
- Seamstress - Sew "American Girl" doll clothes as prizes for our Girl's Teas
- Gardeners - maintain the Stans Garden & prepare the garden for summer/winter
- Genealogist - assist visitors in research library and complete research look-up requests
- Research Library - maintain indexes, help with research look-up requests
- Kids Kraft Helper - assist program manager with craft and / or read story (last Saturday of each month Oct - April, except Dec)
SCHS INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
School Term 2011-12 Internship - SCHS seeks an energetic media intern to develop podcasts and videos for use in the SCHS website and exhibit displays. If you are interested in video creation we offer a great opportunity to gain practical experience. This unpaid internship is for the 2011-2012 school year, and is flexible in length and hours.
Description:
The intern will work with the executive director and curator to develop videos for the SCHS touchscreen exhibit component, and with the program manager to develop podcasts for the SCHS website. Intern will gain hands-on experience with video creation / editing / display software, text writing, proper material handling, use of PastPerfect collections software, research and best practices for exhibit design.
Knowledge / Skills / Experience:
The intern will gain experience with Corel VideoStudio Pro X2, editing software, BrightAuthor touchscreen software and various audio software; exhibit development in a small museum, including preservation techniques, collections documentation and museum ethics; hands-on research experience; and networking with the museum and with other historical societies / businesses. The intern will help interpret and make accessible historical material, leaving a lasting and important contribution to our website, exhibits and public programs.
January Exhibit Internship - SCHS seeks and energetic intern to assist in museum exhibit development and installation. If you are interested in exhibit displays, curatorship, preservation / conservation, we offer a great opportunity for an intern to gain practical experience. This unpaid position is for the month of January 2012 and is flexible in length and hours.
Description:
The intern will work with the curator to develop and install the "Marking Time: Rituals of Life and Death" exhibit in the main gallery. Intern will gain hands-on experience with label writing / creation, proper material handling and mounting, cataloging and using PastPerfect collections database, research and best practices for exhibit design and installation.
Knowledge / Skills / Experience:
The intern will gain experience with exhibit development / installation in a small museum, including preservation techniques, collections documentation and museum ethics, hands-on research, networking within the museum and with other historical societies and businesses, and help the museum properly display and interpret historical materials. This will leave a lasting and important contribution on our collection and public programs.
Summer 2012 Internship - The SCHS seeks two exhibit, one program intern and one education intern for summer 2012 to assist in a number of museum projects.
Description:
Exhibit interns will work with the curator to research, design and install a central gallery exhibit as well ad take ownership of creating an exhibit on Medicine and several off-site exhibits. Program intern will work with the program manager to deliver hands-on programs at county libraries, research - write - design PowerPoint presentations, assist in administration of annual Hangar Dance fundraiser. Education intern will work with the program manager and executive director to anlayze teacher surveys and develop education programs to meet teacher needs.
Knowledge / Skills / Experience:
Exhibit interns will gain experience with exhibit development / installation in a small museum, including preservation techniques, collections documentation and museum ethics, hands-on research, networking within the museum and other historical societies and businesses, and help the museum properly display and interpret historical materials. Program intern will gain experience with adult and youth program development and delivery, evaluations as well as research, networking and proper handling and interpretation of historical materials. Education intern will gain experience in assessment, evaluation, and development of relevant educational programs as well as research, networking and interpretation of historical materials.
Resources:
Museum staff, volunteers and board members will share their expertise with the intern. The intern will have access to SCHS records and collections, research materials at SCHS and at other sites, institutions and experts as needed / available, and use of related equipment as needed.
