Located in the scenic Minnesota River Valley, visitors to the Stans Museum can explore interactive exhibits featuring unique history and people of Scott County, Minnesota.

Named for Maurice H. Stans, the museum also includes exhibits commemorating Stans' life as an entrepreneur, African adventurer and public servant.

Persons interested in genealogy research will want to investigate our Research Center & Archives.

News and Upcoming Events:
New exhibit info:
The SCHS will be unveiling four new off-site exhibits in January.
What's Cooking? will be installed at the Scott County Courthouse and will feature cookbooks and cookbook history.
In Business; Commerce and Trade in Prior Lake tells the story of Prior Lake businesses and will be on display at the Prior Lake City Hall.

Resort history will be featured in Retreating to Prior Lake, on display at the Prior Lake Public Library.

Finally, School Days will highlight items from Shakopee High School and will be on display at the Shakopee Public Library.

We encourage everyone to check out these snapshots of Scott County's diverse history.

Opening March 6 – Crazy Quilting: A Stitch in Time highlights the craft, artistry and skill of crazy quilting. The Scott/Carver Crazy Quilters worked with us to create this fascinating exhibit. Stay tuned for announcements of special events “stitched” into the exhibit run.

Beginning in 2009, the Scott County Historical Society will host FREE family fun days! Held the last Saturday of every month from January - November, each day will feature a Kids’ Kraft program. Designed to engage children through pictures and hands-on activities, Kids’ Krafts consist of a story and craft activity for children 4-8 years old. The museum and research library are also free to the public those days. Registrations required for Kids’ Kraft. These events are FREE, so come have some fun!
