Long overshadowed by the James‑Younger raid in Northfield two decades earlier, the Kellihan affair stands as one of the most notorious and cold‑blooded episodes in early Minnesota bank‑robbery history — made all the more remarkable by the bandits’ bicycle escape, the first ever recorded.

Sauve will recount the dramatic Sherburn robbery of October 7, 1896, a cold‑blooded affair that sent the Kellihan brothers pedaling southward as they attempted to outrun the law. Within several hours, a posse of more than 500 men was in pursuit, and news of the sensational crime spread from coast to coast — even appearing in papers as far away as New Zealand and England.
